August 2024 News and Notes
Sedona Trail by Fred Lang
Painting is possessed of a divine power, for not only...does it make the absent present, but also, after many centuries, makes the dead almost alive, so that they are recognized with great admiration for the artist, and with great delight.
–Leon Battista Alberti

Drawing Boot Camp with Michelle Arnold Paine
September 9, 16, 23, 2024
6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
If you have always wanted to learn how to draw, or feel you missed out on some basics, this class is for you. Drawing is about finding relationships and problem-solving. Learning to draw from observation is an essential element to enhancing creative thinking in all areas of life.
In these 3 sessions we will learn to use a grid to increase accuracy, and practice sighting and measuring skills. The grid is used to enlarge a drawing to any size so that a small sketch can become a finished painting, or a detailed drawing can become a mural. By practicing the skills to become excellent at drawing you can eliminate frustrations in painting as you become better at planning compositions. Appropriate for adults and mature high school students. You do not need to have attended previous sessions of the Drawing Boot Camp. Bring a drawing of your own or a photo or painting that you would like to enlarge.

Gina Wolfrum solo show at the Union League of Chicago
September 25 to November 19 2024
65 West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago
The Union League of Chicago boasts the largest private art collection in the city, second only to the Art Institute of Chicago. From Gina's website:
"As a mixed media artist, I create textural pieces, sometimes abstract and contemporary, and other times – usually my florals – very detailed and specific. My passion is combining color and texture in unconventional methods to arrive at a pleasing, yet thought-provoking presentation of my subject. My paintings have been inspired by simple things like falling leaves to the soothing waves of the oceans.
