Workshop Brief

The objective of this workshop is to take a photograph of your choosing and develop it into a complete portrait in ACRYLIC.

Laura with the Toledo Artist Club will contact  you before the first class to ensure you are prepared with a good photo to work from.

Day One:

  • Discussion and demonstration of the materials.
  • Draw the photograph image on paper using a simple transfer method.
  • Apply acrylics to canvas starting with simple background.


Day Two:

  • Take your portrait to the next level.
  • Hands-on help to each artist as they work on their painting.
  • Learning to know when you are finished with a painting.


Materials to bring:

  • One 11 x 14 or smaller wrapped canvas or canvas board.
  • Acrylic Paints. Suggested Colors:

Meet Laurel

Laurel has been an award-winning, professional artist for over 30 years with works in private, residential and corporate  collections, locally, across the country, and beyond.


She will help you improve your skills and work toward achieving your goals in painting, or drawing.


Come have fun and create your own masterpiece! Classes are small, so you will receive lots of assistance, if you like. Work at your own pace and enjoy the process. She is looking forward to helping you find your painting "voice."


Laurel has taught for many years at the Toledo Museum of Art and at For the Love of Art.


Some Career Highlights: Laurel has received many awards and exhibitions including, Best of Show in the Toledo Area Art Exhibition, and a purchase award. 


Solo Exhibition at the Governor's Mansion by invitation from the Ohio Arts Commission.


Honorable Mention in the Artist Magazine Competition for Landscape.


Third Place in Atlanta Portrait Society Exhibition at a Museum in Athens, GA.
